Requirements gathering

During this phase software objectives are gathered and documented. The requirements are clear specific business-driven need. This is done by meeting with stakeholders, analysing existing systems and processes, performing end-users interviews, market research and a competitor analysis. The compiled list of traceable requirements describe what must be provided (how it will be implemented is addressed as a separate requirement). This process is essential as concise business requirements and a thorough understanding of the users goals are necessary in designing an architecture and system which services both parties needs.

Information Architecture & Interaction Design

The information architecture activity focuses on structuring information systems in such a way that it enables end-users to efficiently find the information they require. Information architecture incorporates grouping and labeling content, associating information, creating metadata and site vocabularies. The interaction design activity focuses on how users interact with the systems. It ensures the system allows the user to perform their tasks easily by taking into account the users limitations and capabilities. Interaction design relates to the detailed design of the system interface and workflow once users tasks have been identified and represents information through the user interface in the form of page layouts/wireframes/prototypes, navigation models and workflow diagrams.

Usability

Usability testing observes users as they undertake a number of tasks. It allows the facilitator and or observer to realise stumbling blocks and improve the system. Ideally testing is performed by the end-user however an expert review can be performed and will often identify the majority of issues.

Training

We have developed a two day workshop to help train or mentor others. The workshop covers gathering requirements, information architecture and usability but can customised to suit you or your organisations needs.
